Aloha Friday #14

Each Friday, Kailani, over at http://www.islandlife808.com/ hosts a wonderful meme called Aloha Friday. It's the end of the week, a chance to relax and get ready for the weekend. To celebrate Aloha Friday, you ask a question and answer others' questions.

My question for this week:

When you move, what do you throw out from the fridge and what do you save?
We are moving this weekend and I'm wondering about opened mayonnaise and opened cheese, all stuff from the fridge.

Due to the move, my email is temporarily not working. I am getting all comments though, so please do comment.

Audrey :)

  1. When we moved I tossed things that were really old or almost gone. Items like mayo that were new and easy to bring over I took. Good luck with the move.

  2. When we moved, each time, we got rid of everything perishable. We had time lags between places due to moving to different states. Good luck with your move.

  3. I think it is a good time to check all the dates on the salad dressing etc. If the dates are ok I take it with me. Old cheese depends on how it looks and smells.

  4. If it's a local move, I'll save it all because it won't be out of the fridge long. If it's further away, I pitch everything perishable.

  5. I'd take the opportunity to do a thorough clean up of things that are almost finished, past expiry dates, or have been sitting untouched for months. Anything good would go in a cooler with ice packs and would be the last thing in the truck.
I hate throwing out good food, especially if it's just so that I can buy more of the same in a few days !

  6. I guess it depends on how far you're moving. If it's a few minutes away and can fit in a cooler with ice, I'd take it with me. If it's a long ways, I wouldn't risk it.

  7. Get the cooler and ice! If you can save it to keep from spending the money of having to buy it again I would go that route. :)

  8. It depends on how far away the new place is. If it's close I'd try to save everything, but if it is far I would throw away everything that could go bad.

  9. It definitely depends on how far away the move is. If it were just across town, I would take most perishables, putting them in a cooler on ice for the move. If it's a long distance, I probably would not mess with it.

  10. Well I guess it depends on a few things: how far are you moving and how old is it? We moved in November and just moved everything since we were just going from 1st floor to 3rd floor in the apartment complex but had we moved any further I would have tossed old stuff and stuff that might not last well without refrigeration/freezing. We had a little help with Hurricane Ike coming through in September so we didn't have alot left to move since everything spoiled during the aftermath of the hurricane with no electricity for days. :(

  11. If you are moving across town...I think it's fine to keep everything.
